I am flawed if I'm not free.
When I was in Boston this weekend I took my friend to Copley Square because it has, in my experience, two of the most beautiful churches in the country. Outside of Old South Church (a United Church of Christ church), there was this sign. Big. And it was amazing how great I felt to see Trans on there. I imagine it would be the same for someone who was homeless or a recovering addict or bisexual or something else that people often judge you for - or who had an identity that has made other religious communities abandon you or shame you. It also wasn’t just listed with things that are “problems” or difficult. It was listed with Male and Female, with Nerd and Cool Kid… I just think this sign is so powerful and I wanted to share it with everyone.
I like the idea of a church saying directly and publicly “Hey you’re trans (and this and this and that) and you’re ‘beloved.’”
This is amazing. I’m glad churches like this exist.

This is how I will feel once this semester is over and my graduate school applications are complete.
Today when I arrived at my internship, I saw two other staff members outside with a dog. He bounded towards me when I walked over there. He was a great dog, really sweet and playful, kind of looked like a German Shepherd except he was all black. One of the case managers I work with there said she saw him this morning cross over the main highway to where Renewal House is.
A hidden perk of this internship is the stray animals that for some reason find their way to Renewal House. There have been two stray cats living there since I started. A dog and three puppies were there a couple weeks ago, but then disappeared. And now, this other dog.
I think it is a sign that animals can help with addiction recovery and social work in general. After all, the residents love taking care of them.
